Common questions and answers

Overall goal of the Cognitive Wellness Program:
The Cognitive Wellness program was developed for individuals who may wish to have a better understanding of their unique profile of cognitive strengths and weaknesses, as well as gain further knowledge of methods that may promote or help maintain cognitive health.

What will a cognitive wellness screening tell me?
A cognitive wellness screening provides a profile of strengths and weaknesses, as well as a baseline that can be used for future comparison. A brief cognitive assessment will allow us to provide you information on your unique pattern of neurocognitive abilities, as well as identify individualized recommendations.

How does the Cognitive Wellness Program differ from a traditional neuropsychological assessment?
Your cognitive screening through the Cognitive Wellness Program is an examination that is not performed due to a medical necessity. Persons interested in this service are solely interested in further enriching their understanding of their current cognitive functioning and ways to continue to maintain cognitive wellness. They also benefit from the highest level of privacy, as no results are shared with anyone besides the client.

This assessment will be much briefer than a traditional evaluation and the findings will be directly provided to you immediately following the evaluation. Results of this evaluation are private and will not be provided to a physician or third party payer (i.e., insurance or healthcare providers) unless you choose to do so.

Can I submit a claim to insurance or Medicare to cover the costs of the evaluation?
No. Because the purpose of the Cognitive Wellness Program is for educational purposes, rather than medical necessity, these services are not covered by insurance companies or Medicare.

Will my findings be sent to an insurance provider or my doctors?
No. Findings from the evaluation completed through the Cognitive Wellness program are released only to you. What you choose to do with your results is up to you. The benefit of this program is that your results are private and will not be released to third parties.

What should I expect from a visit?
Upon completion of 60-75 minutes of testing, you will be given immediate feedback regarding your performance. You will also be provided information about cognitive aging, lifestyle factors that promote successful aging, and compensatory strategies that can be implemented to accommodate for any areas of cognitive weaknesses identified.

What types of recommendations and education do you provide?
Our goal is to help individuals optimize their cognitive health through evaluation and individualized education and recommendations. We will assist in developing your understanding of how lifestyle and other factors (e.g., diet, exercise, stress, chronic pain) impact your cognitive performance and brain health. Education regarding how your cognitive abilities affect work, school, social relationships, athletic performance, and other areas of your life will also be discussed.

What if my screening indicates impairments?
Persons whose screening is considered abnormal will be recommended to seek services from a neurologist for follow-up. Deciding whether to provide a copy of your test results at a follow-up appointment is your choice.
